Why prices vary so much
Stair shape, lift position, building work, electrical work, product options and the amount of making good can all change the final figure. Two houses that look similar from outside can need very different work.
Ask for the finished-job price
For a home lift, check structural openings, electrical supply, decorating, flooring and making good. For a stairlift, ask about hinged rails, powered options, warranty and removal. For bathroom work, ask who deals with plumbing, electrics and finishes.
Compare like with like
One quotation may include several items that another leaves out. Put the main components side by side before deciding which supplier is cheaper.
Be wary of pressure to decide immediately
A genuine time-limited manufacturer offer is one thing. A salesperson insisting that a price disappears the moment they leave is another. Expensive work deserves enough time to understand what you are buying.
Budget for maintenance as well as installation
Lifts and stairlifts need servicing and can eventually need repairs. Ask what routine servicing costs, what the warranty excludes and how quickly help is available if the equipment stops working.
